CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE: ROBOROCK E4
Get the iRobot if you want a vacuum with an automatic surface height adjustment feature, but consider the Roborock if you’re looking to save some money without giving up cleaning performance.
If you’re looking to spend less on a robot vacuum that can keep bare floors clean, consider the Roborock E4. It lacks the brushroll height adjustment feature found on the iRobot Roomba 981 and consequently struggles a little more with climbing over obstructions like electrical cords, but it is less expensive. It also does a fantastic job cleaning pet hair and small and bulky debris like rice or cereal from bare floors. Its dirt compartment is slightly larger, so it doesn’t need emptying quite as often. It also has a remarkably long runtime, though it does take a long time to recharge. Unfortunately, it incurs high recurring costs and has many parts that need regular cleaning, though it’s slightly less demanding in maintenance. It also lacks features other robot vacuums have, like virtual boundary marker support and schedule programming for specific rooms.
