i Robot® Vacuums

If you don’t have time to regularly sweep or vacuum, robot vacuums are an easy way to make sure your home stays clean without you needing to do all the work. Since they use various types of technology like lasers or cameras to navigate and maneuver around a room, they can generally avoid furniture and get beneath couches and tables with relative ease. Some even automatically empty their dirt compartments, which further reduces the work you need to do. Although they aren’t as good at cleaning carpet as more traditional upright vacuums, many come with smart pathing technology to clean more efficiently. Many of them also come with companion apps or remote controls so you can set up scheduled cleaning times or place boundaries to keep it out of certain areas.

ALTERNATIVE WITH A BIGGER DIRT COMPARTMENT: YEEDI K650

Get the Wyze if you want superior maneuverability and slightly better overall cleaning performance, but consider the yeedi if you don't want to worry about emptying a dustbin quite as often.

If you want a budget-friendly robot vacuum but don’t want to empty a dustbin as often, consider the yeedi K650. It doesn’t clear debris quite as effectively as the Wyze Robot Vacuum, particularly on low-pile carpet, and doesn’t have a smart-pathing feature. However, its dustbin is larger, and it has a longer maximum battery life when run in its least powerful ‘Quiet’ suction mode. It delivers fantastic performance on bare floors, where it easily clears debris like pet hair, cereal, or rice. It feels well-built and is rather easy to store, thanks to its compact size. Unfortunately, it can bump into some obstacles and can get caught on rug tassels. It also has quite a few parts that need regular cleaning and incurs quite a few recurring costs.

Best Budget Robot Vacuum: Wyze Robot Vacuum

Unfortunately, this vacuum has many parts that need to be cleaned regularly. Some components need to be periodically replaced, so recurring costs are also somewhat high. Its dirt compartment is also fairly small and needs to be emptied frequently. Otherwise, the vacuum's mix of affordability, impressive build quality, and excellent performance on bare floors help make it one of the best budget robot vacuum cleaners that we've tested.

The best robot vacuum in the budget category that we’ve tested is the Wyze Robot Vacuum. This budget-friendly robot vacuum is impressively well-built and very compact, allowing it to navigate under couches and tables without difficulty. Its LIDAR navigation system maps your home during its first run, and you can use its companion app to set up virtual boundary lines on this map that the vacuum won’t cross.

Battery performance is excellent, as the vacuum can provide roughly anywhere between an hour to over 130 minutes of continuous runtime depending on the chosen suction power level, which should be more than enough to clean most spaces. It does a superb job of clearing debris on bare floors and performs fairly well on low and high-pile carpet, though it’s likely to need several passes to fully clear fine debris like baking soda or larger material like sand.

Best Robot Vacuum For Carpet: iRobot Roomba S9

Unfortunately, like most robot vacuums, many parts need to be cleaned or even replaced regularly, so recurring costs can add up over time. Still, if you're looking for a feature-dense robot vacuum that can handle messes on carpeted floors, this is a good option, as it's also one of the best vacuums for carpets that we've tested.

The iRobot Roomba S9 is the best robot vacuum cleaner for carpet that we’ve tested. This premium robot vacuum feels amazingly well-built, with high-grade plastic construction and dense wheels that enable it to roll smoothly on carpeted floors. Its vacuum head also automatically changes height depending on the surface it’s on, and there are three different suction power levels to choose from.

This vacuum delivers impressive performance on low-pile carpet and does a good job clearing various kinds of debris on high-pile carpet, though it might take an extra pass to clean larger debris like sand on this surface type. The vacuum’s vSLAM navigational system builds a virtual map of its coverage area, which you can access through its companion app to set up virtual boundary lines or schedule cleaning sessions for individual rooms. Its battery performance is also superb, as you can expect roughly anywhere between 50 to over 150 minutes of runtime on a single charge depending on your choice of settings and usage habits.

If you’re looking to spend less on a robot vacuum that can keep bare floors clean, consider the Roborock E4. It lacks the brushroll height adjustment feature found on the iRobot Roomba 981 and consequently struggles a little more with climbing over obstructions like electrical cords, but it is less expensive. It also does a fantastic job cleaning pet hair and small and bulky debris like rice or cereal from bare floors. Its dirt compartment is slightly larger, so it doesn’t need emptying quite as often. It also has a remarkably long runtime, though it does take a long time to recharge. Unfortunately, it incurs high recurring costs and has many parts that need regular cleaning, though it’s slightly less demanding in maintenance. It also lacks features other robot vacuums have, like virtual boundary marker support and schedule programming for specific rooms.

The best robot vacuum for bare floors that we’ve tested is the iRobot Roomba 981. This robot vacuum does a fantastic job cleaning pet hair, bulky debris like cereal, and small debris like rice from bare floors. Better still, its suction performance also remains very consistent as its dirt compartment fills with debris. It has a HEPA filter to trap allergens as it cleans, too.

This vacuum feels very well-built, with a hard plastic body, along with wheels and twin brushrolls made of rubber. It does an excellent job of maneuvering itself, with a surface detection feature that lets it automatically change its suction power mode and brushroll height depending on the surface that it’s on. Its batter performance is also excellent, as you should expect roughly anywhere between one to two hours of runtime, depending on settings and usage patterns.
